PhoneToCar privacy policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
The short version
PhoneToCar does its work on your phone and in your car. It has no ads and no analytics, and it does not collect your data. The only thing it ever sends us is a problem report, and only when you tap Send.
What the app uses, and why
- Your screen and apps
- The picture goes from your phone to your car's screen over your phone's own hotspot or Wi-Fi. It does not go over the internet, and it never reaches us.
- Touch from the car
- Android's accessibility service is used only to perform the taps and swipes you make on the car's screen. PhoneToCar does not read what is on your screen.
- VPN
- Android calls it a VPN. PhoneToCar uses it only to give your phone a fixed address that your car can reach. It carries no other traffic, and nothing passing through it is looked at, stored or sent anywhere.
- Bluetooth
- Used to notice when your car connects, so the app can start by itself. The cars you choose are remembered on your phone only.
- Setup helper
- For the car's own screen, the app uses Android's Wireless debugging on your phone to run a small helper. It talks only to your own phone; nothing leaves it.
Problem reports
If you tap Report a problem and then Send, we receive:
- what you wrote;
- a picture of your screen, which you can remove before sending;
- the app's settings and status, and its log from the last few minutes.
No messages, passwords or contacts are included. Reports go through Sentry, a service in the United States that delivers them to us by email. We use them only to fix problems. To have a report deleted, write to [email protected].
Children
PhoneToCar is meant for drivers and is not aimed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date.
